Where should Chennai's next airport go?
On 24 August 2026, Tamil Nadu scrapped the Parandur greenfield airport and announced a fresh hunt for a site "with the least possible impact on agricultural land and residential areas".12 So we ran that exact brief through the land records themselves: every revenue village within 35 to 110 km of Chennai, screened against the same rules that made and then unmade Parandur.

What the study finds, in brief.
Tamil Nadu cancelled the Parandur greenfield airport in the Assembly on 24 August 2026 and announced a fresh search for a site with the least possible impact on farmland and homes. This study runs that brief through the government's own land registers: 12,026,726 ownership records across 5,241 revenue villages in an arc 35 to 110 km around Chennai, screened by fifteen exclusion gates drawn from aviation policy, defence airspace, environmental law and the Parandur post-mortem itself.
Only 963 villages pass every gate, and they assemble into three viable belts: one near Tiruttani with the best highway and rail access, one near Madurantakam on the GST corridor with a waterbody share of 1.6% against Parandur's 25.4% and the lowest displacement of any candidate, and one near Uthiramerur closest to the city with the highest existing government land share. The signed-in study maps each belt on the real cadastre, prices a Parandur-sized acquisition in each at the state's own compensation package, and explains why the numbers point where they point. Our register figures reproduce the official Parandur waterbody share to within one percentage point, which is the study's standing accuracy check.

This study is what our everyday tools do, at scale.
The same registers that screened 5,241 villages here answer questions about a single survey number every day: ownership, waterbody overlap, defence and airport distance, guideline value, all of it on one map.
