THE CENSUS PUBLICATIONS GOVERNMENT OF INDIA PUBLICATIONS VOL. XVI—NINTH CENSUS 1951. NOTE Part II-B, designed for producing the sole economic tables of the 1951 Census based on the general population, has been organised into two sub-parts for convenience of presentation. The separate number of Part II-B, the Worker Statistics, has been issued separately. Although particular as economic characteristics of the population have always enjoyed a measure of prominence in Indian Censuses ever since 1872 in reproduction of returns from the quinquennial will be found useful, the elaboration scheme and the concepts of participation have for several decades more remained alien even to the Indian census of the major change in economy and the tight forward position, 1941 to the individual 1951.
