Why the same person is written three ways
A name mismatch is when the patta, the sale deed and the encumbrance certificate write the same owner differently, with initials, a father's name, a caste name or a Tamil and an English spelling.

Take the patta holder's name from the patta or chitta, and the seller's name from the deed or the EC. Keep the Tamil script and the initials as written.

The name on my patta is different from the sale deed. Is that a problem?
Often not. Initials, spellings and Tamil and English forms differ between records all the time. Run the two names here: if they reconcile, the reason says how. If they do not, or the verdict is "cannot tell", the seller should show ID and, where needed, a name correction or succession document.
Does it handle Tamil script?
Yes. Paste the Tamil name from the patta and the English name from the deed. The comparison works across the two scripts.

The names point to a family member, such as a son, daughter, spouse or parent, rather than the same person. That usually means a succession, settlement or partition document is needed to connect them.
What does "cannot tell" mean?
