Pincodes, briefly
A PIN code (Postal Index Number) is the six-digit code India Post uses to route mail. It names the area one post office delivers to, which is why a plot with no door number still has one.

When it helps with land
Vacant land
A plot with no building has no postal address, but it sits inside a pincode area. The pin finds it.
Forms that ask for it
Sale deeds, loan applications and tax registrations all ask for the pincode of the property, not of the owner.
Checking an old bill
Boundaries are revised from time to time. The answer is the current boundary, so an older bill may carry a different code.
A pincode says which post office serves a spot, not who owns it or what the land is. Check the survey number and the owner in the revenue records before any money moves.
