The answer
From the register, with its date and source.
Nothing run yet. The answer appears here with everything this mini adds:
- Every deed type the Registration Department charges, not only a sale
- The rule behind each figure, so you can see a cap or a flat fee when it applies
- One number for the total you carry to the Sub-Registrar office
How this works
What it reads, what it needs, and how to read the answer.
Stamp duty and the registration fee are what the Registration Department collects when a deed is registered in Tamil Nadu. Both depend on the deed type and on the value the document is charged on. This mini applies the current rate table for the deed you pick.
The value the fee is charged on and the deed type. For a sale that is the higher of the price and the guideline value; for a mortgage it is the loan amount; for a family partition, the number of shares.

Run it as often as you need. Nothing is deducted.
Stamp duty and registration fee are shown separately with the rule that produced each (a percentage, a percentage with a cap, or a flat fee), then the total. Where a deed carries a cap the cap is applied.

Questions people ask
Short answers, no jargon.
What is the stamp duty on a sale deed in Tamil Nadu?
Seven percent of the market value, plus a registration fee of two percent, nine percent in all. Market value means the higher of the price paid and the guideline value.
Is a gift or settlement to a family member cheaper?
Yes. Gifts and settlements among family members carry a much lower duty with a cap, which the mini applies when you pick that deed type.
Is the fee charged on the price I paid or the guideline value?
On whichever is higher. Use the Guideline value mini to get the official rate for the parcel and multiply by its extent.
Does this include stamp paper and other charges?
It covers the stamp duty and the registration fee only. Document writing, e-stamp vendor charges and any user charges at the office are extra.
