From which year is the EC available for your village?

Online encumbrance records in Tamil Nadu start on 1 January 1975 for most villages, but a village can move between Sub-Registrar Offices, and each office holds only its own years. Type the village and see which office held it, from when and until when.

Free. Sign in once with your phone to run it.

What the answer holds
  • Each office that held the village, with the date its records start, and whether it holds the village today
  • Villages that share a name kept apart by their office
  • Read from the same village map the EC search itself uses, so what it says is what the EC can reach

What we need

One thing at a time. Fill it in and press Run.

As the registration office spells it. Villages that share the name are listed with their office, so pick yours by the office.

No credits are used.

The answer

From the register, with its date and source.

Nothing run yet. The answer appears here with everything this mini adds:

  • Each office that held the village, with the date its records start, and whether it holds the village today
  • Villages that share a name kept apart by their office
  • Read from the same village map the EC search itself uses, so what it says is what the EC can reach
The basics

Encumbrance records, by office

The period for which a Sub-Registrar Office holds searchable encumbrance records for a village. An EC search for years outside it comes back empty, whatever was registered.

Villages mapped
25,770

Village names in the registration department's village to office mapping, across 627 Sub-Registrar Offices.

Start in 1975
21,362

Of 31,293 office periods, 21,362 begin on 1 January 1975, the start of the online records.

Moved office
7,596 periods

Office periods that have ended, because the village moved to another office. An EC across the move needs a search at each.

How it works

How to check EC availability for a village

  1. 1

    Type the village

As the registration office spells it. Part of the name works.

  2. 2

    Press Run

Each office that held a village of that name is listed with the dates its records start and end.

  3. 3

    Pick your office

Villages share names across districts. Choose yours by the office, then run the EC for the years it holds.

Where it helps

When it helps with land

Before a paid EC

Know the years the office can search before you pay, so an empty certificate is not a surprise.

A 30-year title check

A lender asks for 30 years. If the village moved office in that time, two searches are needed.

An old deed

A deed from the 1980s was registered where the village sat then, which may not be today's office.

Worth knowing

A period the office holds means the records can be searched, not that anything was registered. Registrations before 1975, and in some villages before a later start date, are in the office's paper books and need a manual search.

Questions

Questions people ask

From which year is EC available online in Tamil Nadu?

From 1 January 1975 for most villages: 21,362 of the 31,293 office periods start that day. Some villages start later, at the office they moved to. The answer gives the dates for your village.

Why are several offices listed for my village?

Either the village moved between offices over the years, each holding its own period, or other villages share its name. The office and the dates tell them apart.

What does "Current" mean?

It marks the office that registers the village today. An office without it held the village for the dates shown and then handed it on.

I need an EC from before 1975.

Those registrations are in the office's paper registers. Apply at the Sub-Registrar Office for a manual search.

Is it free?

Yes. A LandLens login is needed to run it.
