TN-GIS is answering right now

TN-GIS, the Tamil Nadu Geographical Information System at tngis.tn.gov.in, is the state's map service, built and run by the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency. Its GI viewer draws every surveyed parcel with its survey number over a base map, and the same engine draws the FMB sketch on e-Services. The board checks it every five minutes; when it is not answering, the village map with survey numbers is here.

Checked every 5 minutes from our own monitors, through the route a visitor uses. Each cell is 15 minutes of today, IST. Board refreshed 20:18 IST

Answering replied in 3.8 s, checked 3 minutes ago

Answered 243 of 244 checks today. Green: every check in the cell answered. Red: one did not. Grey: not yet checked.

A red cell means the portal did not return its page to our monitor within the time a visitor would wait. A visitor sees the same. Each portal's name opens its own page.

How to see a village map with survey numbers

  1. Open the village map page here and choose the district, taluk and village.
  2. Every parcel in the village is drawn with its survey number. Zoom and drag, or type a survey number in the search box to jump to it.
  3. Tap a parcel to open its FMB sketch with the survey number and sub-division already filled in.

The same parcels are on the TN-GIS viewer under Explore Tamil Nilam GI Viewer; the map here is our own copy of that layer, so it draws when the portal does not.

Why TN-GIS is often slow or down

One GIS server draws maps for the public viewer, for every department's dashboards and for the FMB sketch service. When it is busy the viewer loads a blank map, and the FMB page on e-Services fails with no explanation, because the sketch it asked for never arrived. The board records each outage; the FMB page here switches to the archive on its own when TN-GIS does not draw.

TNREGINET, Tamil Nilam and TN-GIS: three portals, one property

TN-GIS draws the maps; it does not hold the text of the register. Who holds a parcel is on Tamil Nilam e-Services, its registered history and guideline value on TNREGINET. This site reads all three and keeps its own copies, the cadastral layer included.

Questions people ask about TN-GIS

What is TNGIS?

TN-GIS is the Tamil Nadu Geographical Information System, the state government's map service at tngis.tn.gov.in, built and run by the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA). It holds the cadastral map of every surveyed village, each parcel with its survey number, and the thematic layers departments publish over it: planning zones, water bodies, roads and more.

Is TNGIS down right now?

The board at the top of this page says. Our monitors ask the portal for its page every five minutes and record whether it answered and how long it took. When it is not answering, the village map and the survey number finder on this site still draw from our own copy of the cadastral layer.

How do I find a survey number on the TNGIS map?

Open Explore Tamil Nilam GI Viewer on the portal, choose the district, taluk and village, and zoom to the plot; each parcel is labelled with its number. When the viewer will not load, the village map here draws the same parcels, and the survey number finder reads the number under a pin or an address.

Does TNGIS show a village map with survey numbers?

Yes, in the GI viewer. The village map on this site shows the same thing: every parcel of the village with its survey number, and each parcel opens its FMB sketch.

Why does the FMB sketch fail on e-Services when TNGIS is down?

e-Services does not draw the sketch itself; it asks TN-GIS for it. When TN-GIS is slow or down the FMB page on e-Services waits and then fails without saying why. The FMB page here keeps an archive of sketches and serves from it when TN-GIS does not answer.

What is the Tamil Nilam GI viewer?

The public map on TN-GIS that draws the Tamil Nilam land register: the parcels of a village with their survey numbers, over a satellite or street base map.

Is TNGIS the same as Tamil Nilam?

No. Tamil Nilam is the Revenue Department's land register, the text: who holds a parcel, its extent and its classification. TN-GIS is the map that register is drawn on. e-Services shows the text; TN-GIS shows the shape.

Can I download a village map from TNGIS?

The viewer is for viewing on screen. The village map here can be zoomed and searched by survey number, and each parcel opens its FMB sketch as a PDF.

Is TNGIS free to use?

Yes. The public viewer needs no login and no fee, and so do the village map and the survey number finder on this site.
