Reading the forest list
The Forest Department's list of survey numbers it has examined as possible forest land, each with a status that says whether the department verified it as forest.

Buying in a new village
The village count shows whether the department has examined many surveys there.
Not on the list means no entry today, not that the land can never be claimed, and it says nothing about other restrictions. For a listed survey, get the Forest Settlement Officer's or District Forest Officer's position in writing, and run the zone check for the other layers.

How do I check whether my land is forest land?

Clear means safe?
Clear means the survey is not on the list today. It does not rule out a future claim, and it says nothing about other layers such as water bodies or the coastal zone. The zone check covers those.
My survey is listed but the status is not forest. What does that mean?
The department examined the survey and did not record it as forest. The answer quotes the status exactly as the department wrote it. That is a reassuring answer, not a claim.
Another sub-division of my survey is listed. Is mine affected?
Not necessarily. The list is kept per sub-division, so a neighbour's entry is shown apart from yours. An entry with no sub-division stands for the whole survey and is treated as yours. Check the boundary on the FMB sketch.
Why is my town plot shown as unresolved?
A town survey number repeats in every block. When a listed entry names the survey but its block cannot be matched, it cannot be placed on your plot, so it is shown as unresolved rather than as a hit or as clear.
What do I do if the survey is verified as forest?
Do not pay an advance. Ask the seller for the forest settlement records, and approach the District Forest Officer or the Forest Settlement Officer for the parcel's status in writing.

When the list answers for the survey. If the lookup fails, nothing is charged. The price is shown beside the Run button.
