New survey number to old

A current survey number in any town or village, turned back into the old pre-resurvey number a title chain or encumbrance certificate was written under.

Free to run. Sign in once and use it as often as you need.

What we need

One thing at a time. Fill it in and press Run.

Pick the town or village and the current survey number. Add the sub-division when you know it.

No credits are used.

The answer

From the register, with its date and source.

Nothing run yet. The answer appears here with everything this mini adds:

  • The old number is split into individually searchable numbers, which is what an encumbrance search needs
  • Every sub-division of the survey number is returned when you do not name one
  • Owner and extent come from the same register entry

How this works

What it reads, what it needs, and how to read the answer.

What it does

Deeds, encumbrance certificates and title chains written before town survey cite the old number. Searching them by the current number finds nothing, so the old number is the key to the property history.

What you give it

The town and the current town survey number. The sub-division narrows it to one holding.

What it adds beyond the portal
  • The old number is split into individually searchable numbers, which is what an encumbrance search needs
  • Every sub-division of the survey number is returned when you do not name one
  • Owner and extent come from the same register entry
What it costs
Free every run

Run it as often as you need. Nothing is deducted.

How to read the result

The old survey number as the register prints it, plus each individual number inside it. Use those when searching an encumbrance certificate for the years before the resurvey.

Where the data comes from

The town survey land register (TSLR) old survey number field, held offline. Urban parcels only.

Questions people ask

Short answers, no jargon.

The field holds several numbers. Which one is mine?

All of them relate to the parcel: the current plot was formed from parts of each. Search the encumbrance certificate for each in turn.

Nothing is printed for my parcel.

About 7% of urban parcels carry no old number in the register. The parcel itself is still in the register; only that field is blank.

Does this work for rural land?

Not yet here. Rural records carry an old number too, and that is the next phase.

Still unsure? Ask LandLens One, it can reason about this parcel with you.
