What was this survey number before, and what did the old one become?
Tamil Nadu renumbered land twice: the Updating Registry (UDR) resurvey of 1979 to 1987 in the villages, and town survey in the towns. Pick the place, type the number as the deed or patta prints it, and read the register's own link between the old number and today's parcels, with the recorded owner.

Renumbered land, briefly
The resurvey scheme of 1 June 1979 to about 1987 that re-measured the ryotwari villages outside Madras, the Nilgiris and Kanyakumari, made the pending sub-divisions and issued fresh A-registers and FMB sketches.
- Village resurvey
- 1979 to 1987
The Updating Registry re-measured the villages and re-issued their registers. Many sub-divisions were renumbered then.
- Town survey
- T.S. numbers
Towns were given block-scoped town survey numbers that replaced the revenue survey numbers.
- Read from
- The register
The A-register keeps the parent of each sub-division; the town survey register keeps the old revenue number.
How to find what an old survey number is today
- 1
Choose the direction
An old number to today's parcels, or a current number back to the one it came from.
- 2
Pick the town or village
A survey number means nothing outside the place it was given in.
- 3
Type the number
As the document prints it, with the sub-division after a slash: 10/2, R.S. 59/1, 45/4.
When it helps with land
A deed and a patta that disagree
The deed says 186/4 and the patta says 45/4. The register shows whether they are the same ground.
A sub-division carved again
A deed names 10/2 and the register lists 10/2A1 and 10/2B. See which parcels came from the deed's number.
An EC before the resurvey
Encumbrance records before the renumbering are indexed by the old number. Find it before you search.
The register links the numbers; it does not say which of several parcels a deed conveys. That is settled by the deed's schedule and the FMB sketch.
Questions people ask
How do I find the new survey number from an old survey number?
Choose "An old number", pick the town or village, type the old number as the deed prints it and press Run. Every current parcel the register derives from it is listed with its owner, patta and extent.
What is UDR in Tamil Nadu land records?
The Updating Registry scheme of 1979 to about 1987, which re-measured the villages, made the pending sub-divisions and issued fresh A-registers. Many survey and sub-division numbers changed then.
How is this different from the old survey number to new mini?
That one reads the old number field of the registers and is free. This one also reads the village A-register's parent field, which links a sub-division to the survey it was carved from, and answers both ways.
Why are several parcels listed for one old number?
The old survey was divided. Each current parcel is a separate holding, and each one records the same earlier number.
When is it charged?
Only when the register links the number to a parcel. A number it holds nothing for costs nothing. The price is shown beside the Run button.
