Notifications under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975 (42 VI 1 T Sup v2)

What the Gazette publication does

The Tamil Nadu Government Registration Department, through the Department Heads' Notifications in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette dated 18 October 2017, published Notification Reference No. 2461/A2/2016 and Notification Reference No. 6088/A4/2015. The first removes specified inactive societies in the Salem East registration district from the societies register. The second publishes a separate list of Tiruppur area societies under section 44(3) of the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975.

Salem East societies removed

Notification Reference No. 2461/A2/2016 concerns societies registered in 2001 within the Salem East registration district. The listed societies had not filed the annual statements required under section 16(3)(b) for three consecutive years or longer.

Key points are:

• The societies had previously been treated as inactive under section 44(3)(b).
• A notice was published in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette on 6 April 2016.
• No objections to dissolution were received from the societies within three months of publication.

The Salem list contains 26 sports, youth, agricultural, trade, weaving, social welfare, religious and water users' associations. It includes registration numbers 29/2001 and 31/2001 to 55/2001.

Tiruppur area list

Notification Reference No. 6088/A4/2015 is issued under section 44(3) and lists societies from the Tiruppur, Dharapuram, Udumalai and surrounding areas. The supplied text includes societies registered between 1975 and 2011.

The entries include agricultural and irrigation groups, women's self-help groups, workers' and traders' associations, religious bodies and residents' welfare associations. Property owners may particularly recognise Sornapuri Enclave Residents Welfare Association and Sornapuri Avenue Residents Welfare Association among the listed bodies.

Who should check the lists

Members, office bearers, residents, farmers and others dealing with a named society should verify its registration number and address against the Gazette entry. The publication concerns society registration status. It does not itself document ownership, transfer, development approval or change of land use.
