What the gazette covers

Tamil Nadu Gazette Number 52, Part VI, Section 1 Supplement, published by the Tamil Nadu Government on 26 December 2018, contains separate notifications concerning registered societies and goat breeding cooperative societies. It does not announce a land classification, land acquisition, planning change or property registration requirement.

Proposed removal of inactive societies

The Registrar of Societies and District Registrar issued notification file number 6051/E/2018, recorded at Namakkal on 15 November 2018. The notice identifies four Namakkal district organisations as apparently inactive because required reports had not been filed for more than three consecutive years.

The listed organisations have registration numbers 122/2005, 37/2006, 16/2009 and 85/2009. They include human rights, consumer protection and community organisations in Pandamangalam, Tiruchengode, Erumapatti and Senthamangalam.

The Registrar also issued notification file number 818/E1/2018 concerning listed Madurai district societies. Key provisions are:

  • The office records show that annual returns were not filed for more than three consecutive years.
  • Each listed society is treated as not functioning unless it provides evidence to the contrary.
  • An affected society has three months from publication of the notice in the Tamil Nadu Gazette to submit a supported explanation.
  • If no adequate explanation is provided, the society's name may be removed from the register and the society may be declared dissolved.

Cooperative registrations cancelled

The Joint Director, Animal Husbandry Department, Thoothukudi Region, issued order number க. எண். 27/அ2/2004 dated 4 December 2018 cancelling the registration of AHDTN.57, Sekkarakudi Goat Breeding Cooperative Society. Its winding up was finalised on 30 August 2018.

The Joint Director, Animal Husbandry Department, Thoothukudi Region, also issued order number க. எண். 37/அ2/2004 dated 4 December 2018 cancelling the registration of AHDTN.61, Thenthiruperai Goat Breeding Cooperative Society. Its winding up was finalised on 25 September 2018. Both cancellation orders took effect on 4 December 2018.

Who should check the notices

Members, officers, creditors or persons dealing with a listed society should verify its registration position. A property buyer or owner is affected only if a listed society is involved in the ownership, occupation, sale or management of the property.

Common questions

Does this gazette change the status or permitted use of any land?

No land classification, planning change, acquisition or change of land use is stated. The notifications concern inactive registered societies and cancellation of two cooperative society registrations.

Can a society listed as inactive prevent its name from being removed?

Yes. The notices allow three months from publication in the Tamil Nadu Gazette for the society to provide evidence and an adequate explanation that it is functioning.

Were the Sekkarakudi and Thenthiruperai cooperative societies only proposed for cancellation?

No. Their registrations were cancelled by orders of the Joint Director, Animal Husbandry Department, Thoothukudi Region, dated 4 December 2018, with effect from that date.

Why should a property buyer check whether a listed society is involved?

The gazette may matter where a listed society is a party connected with the property. The notices show that some society names may be removed from the register and that two cooperative registrations were cancelled.
