- Ownership Proof: Official recognition of land ownership
- Owner Details: Name and relationship details of the owner(s)

Frequently Asked Questions
What are patta and chitta?
Patta is the revenue record that names the person in whose name a survey number is held, with the extent, land classification and the tax due. Chitta is the ledger of every holding under one patta number. Tamil Nadu now issues the two as a single patta chitta extract, which is what this page shows.
How do I view patta chitta online for free?
Choose Rural Patta/Chitta, pick the district, taluk and village, enter the survey number and sub-division (or the patta number), and submit. The extract from the revenue register appears on the page. There is no charge to view it, and the patta analyzer can read it out in plain English for 1 credit.
Can I download the patta as a PDF?
Yes. Once the record is on screen, use Download as PDF to save a copy for your file or to share with a lawyer or bank.
Can I check patta chitta with only a survey number?
Yes. For rural land, select the district, taluk and village and enter the survey number and sub-division. If you know the patta number instead, switch the search to patta number. For town-surveyed property, use the Urban TSLR search with the ward, block and town survey number.
Does a patta prove that I own the land?
No. A patta is a revenue record, not a title deed. It is strong supporting evidence, but ownership rests on the registered sale deed and its chain, which the encumbrance certificate (EC) traces. Check the patta, the EC and the FMB sketch together before buying.
Why is there no patta for my plot in Chennai?
Areas that have had a town survey (Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and other towns) are recorded in the Town Survey Land Register (TSLR) instead of a rural patta. Use the Urban TSLR option on this page with the district, taluk, town, ward, block and town survey number.
What is the difference between patta chitta and FMB?
The patta chitta records who holds the survey number and how much land it carries. The FMB (Field Measurement Book) sketch is the surveyed drawing of that survey number showing its shape, dimensions and neighbours. The two are read together to confirm that the extent in the patta matches the ground.
How do I transfer a patta to my name after buying?
Apply for patta transfer through the Tamil Nadu e-Sevai centre or the state land records portal with the registered sale deed, the EC and identity proof. The taluk office verifies and issues the patta in the new name. You can track the application on our patta status page and confirm the new name here once it is issued.
What is Tamil Nilam?
Tamil Nilam is the Tamil Nadu government land records portal that holds the patta, chitta and A-Register. This page reads the same register, so what you see here matches what the portal holds on the day you check.
