IGR Land Classification API: how registration values a Tamil Nadu survey
Yes. igr_classification returns how the Tamil Nadu registration department classifies a survey for its guideline value: the land class it is valued as (for example "Wet Special Type - II" or "Residential Class IV Type - I"), the class grouping (wet, dry, natham and so on), the survey's price rank among the guideline bands of its village (1 is the priciest), the sub-registrar office, and the date the guideline value was last revised. It is the class, not the rate: guideline_value gives the rupee figure. It costs 1 credit per survey found.

A real answer from the API (22 Oct 2026, Kavanoor village, Kundrathur taluk), with an internal reading note left out.
What it returns
One survey, with a row per sub-division (or the one you named).
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
classifications | One row per sub-division: survey, class (the land class), type_class, grouping, and price_rank_in_village (1 = the priciest band in the village). |
sro | The sub-registrar office the survey registers at. |
igr_district | The registration district. |
guideline_last_revised | The date the survey's guideline value took effect, where found. |
survey | The survey asked about. |
note | What the classification is and is not, ready to show. |
Inputs
The JSON body of the POST is the arguments. The three revenue codes and the survey number are required. resolve_parcel returns them for a map point.
| Argument | Type | What to send |
|---|---|---|
district_coderequired |
string | |
taluk_coderequired |
string | |
village_coderequired |
string | |
survey_numberrequired |
string | |
sub_division |
string | Optional. Without it every sub-division of the survey is returned. |
register |
string: rural, urban | Send "urban" for town survey land: the answer then says the classification does not apply, instead of reading the village that shares the town's code. |

Responses
Every answer has the same envelope. What status can say for this call:
| status | What it means |
|---|---|
ok | The survey is classified in the register. Charged 1 credit. |
not_found | No survey level class is recorded, or the parcel is town survey land. Nothing is charged. |
invalid_args | A revenue code or the survey number is missing. |
Where the data comes from
The Tamil Nadu registration department's guideline value register, classified survey by survey, as revised in 2024.
Revenue village surveys that the guideline register values survey by survey. Town survey land and surveys valued by street rate are not classified here.
Read from our copy of the 2024 guideline register. guideline_last_revised gives the date the survey's guideline value took effect.
Matched by district, taluk and village codes (padded and unpadded) and survey number, with the sub-division when sent. Street-rate rows are left out.
Who uses it
Buyers and valuers
See whether the registration department values a plot as residential or agricultural before working out stamp duty.
Law firms
Explain a guideline value in a deed by the class and band the survey falls in.
Analysts
Rank surveys within a village by their guideline band.
Limits and good practice
- This is the registration department's valuation class, not the revenue record's land use. The two can differ: natham land can be valued as residential.
- It gives the class and band, not the rate. Use guideline_value for the rupee figure.
- Town survey land and surveys valued by street rate are not classified here.
Pricing
Each survey found costs 1 credit; nothing when the survey is not classified. Credits come from the same LandLens wallet as the chat and the minis. How billing works.
For thousands of calls a month, a portfolio sweep or a platform built on these registers, we quote a customised bulk price, with invoicing to match.
Questions
Is there an API for the registration department's land classification in Tamil Nadu?
Yes, this one. It returns the land class, grouping and price band a survey is valued under, and the last guideline revision date.
How much does it cost?
1 credit per survey found. Nothing when the survey is not classified.
What does price rank 1 mean?
The survey sits in the priciest guideline band of its village. Higher numbers are cheaper bands.
Does it give the guideline value in rupees?
No. guideline_value gives the rate; this gives the class behind it.
