Sub Registrar Office Finder API for Tamil Nadu
Yes. The LandLens SRO finder takes a latitude and longitude in Tamil Nadu, or an office name, and returns the sub registrar office that registers deeds for that land: its name and registration code, its zone, the guide village the point falls in, and the office's phone, address and email, with the District Registrar and the DIG of Registration above it for escalation. The code is the one encumbrance certificate and certified copy orders need. It costs nothing.

A real answer from the API (22 Oct 2026).
What it returns
One call, one office. found is false (status not_found) when no office covers the point, the point is outside Tamil Nadu, or no office has that name.
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
sro_name, sro_code | The sub registrar office and its registration code, the code EC and certified copy requests take. |
zone_name, zone_code | The registration zone the office belongs to. |
guide_village | The guide village the point falls in, as the registration department names it. Absent when the jurisdiction map holds no name for the spot. |
taluk_name, district_name | Where the point is. |
offices[] | The escalation ladder: the Sub Registrar Office, the District Registrar and the DIG of Registration, each with name, contact, address and email where published. |
note | What the answer means in plain words. |
Ways to call it
By location, or by office name.
By location
A point inside the land. Returns the office whose jurisdiction covers it.
{"lat": 12.901,"lng": 80.2279}
By office name
For a phone number or the code of an office you already know.
{"sro_name": "Neelankarai"}
Inputs
The JSON body of the POST is the arguments. Send lat and lng, or sro_name.
| Argument | Type | What to send |
|---|---|---|
lat |
number | Latitude in decimal degrees |
lng |
number | Longitude in decimal degrees |
sro_name |
string | Instead of a point: the office name, e.g. Neelankarai or Royapuram. |

Which sub registrar office registers land at 12.9010, 80.2279, and what is its phone number?
Your AI finds the office and gives you its contacts and the officers above it. It is free.
Responses
Every answer has the same envelope. What status can say for this call:
| status | What it means |
|---|---|
ok | The office was found. |
not_found | No office covers the point, the point is outside Tamil Nadu, no office has that name, or neither a point nor a name was sent. message says which. |
free_limit_reached | The account has used its free calls for the hour or the day. retry_after says how many seconds to wait; paid calls keep working. |
Where the data comes from
The Tamil Nadu Registration Department's jurisdiction of each sub registrar office over its guide villages, and the department's published directory of sub registrar offices, District Registrars and DIG zones with their contacts.
Every district of Tamil Nadu. The contact directory holds 704 sub registrar offices with the District Registrar and DIG zone above each.
Read from our copy of the jurisdiction map and the department's office directory, refreshed when the department publishes a change. Office phone numbers and addresses are as the department publishes them.
A point is placed in the guide village whose jurisdiction covers it, which names the office. An office name is matched against the directory regardless of spacing (Anna Nagar and AnnaNagar both match), and its registration code is added where it is mapped.
Who uses it
EC and certified copy flows
Get the office and its code from a map point, then order the EC or the certified copy without asking the user which office.
Buyers and sellers
Know where the sale will be registered and whom to call, before booking a slot.
Advocates
Name the right office in a legal notice, and escalate to the District Registrar or DIG with their contacts in hand.
Limits and good practice
- Jurisdiction is by guide village. A point on a village boundary can fall under the neighbouring office; place it inside the land.
- Office contacts are as the department publishes them, and some offices publish no email or phone.
- Searching by name can return no sro_code where the office is not mapped to a registration code.
Pricing
The SRO finder costs nothing. Free calls have their own allowance per hour and per day. Credits come from the same LandLens wallet as the chat and the minis. How billing works.
Free calls have an hourly and daily allowance. For more than that, or a platform built on these registers, we set up limits and a plan to match.
Questions
Is there an API to find the sub registrar office for a location in Tamil Nadu?
Yes, this one. Send a latitude and longitude and you get the office whose jurisdiction covers it, with its code, zone, guide village and contacts.
Can I get an SRO's phone number by its name?
Yes. Send sro_name and you get the office's contact card and the District Registrar and DIG above it.
What is the SRO code used for?
Registration department requests are filed by office code. The EC and certified copy calls take it, so passing it on saves the user from finding it.
How do I list every village an SRO covers?
That is sro_directory with mode villages_of_sro. It is free too.
