FMB Village Map API for Tamil Nadu
Yes. The LandLens village map API takes the revenue codes of a Tamil Nadu village and returns its map from the state cadastral boundary layer: how many parcels and survey numbers it holds, its centre and bounds, and a link to every survey sub-division's outline as JSON, ready to draw. Use it to find where a survey number sits in its village and which surveys surround it. Village land only. It costs nothing.

What it returns
One call, one village. The outlines themselves are at parcels_url. found is false (status not_found) when the layer holds no outlines for the village.
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
parcel_count, survey_count | How many sub-division outlines and how many distinct survey numbers the village map holds. |
village, taluk, district | The village's names. |
centre, bounds | The middle of the village and its south-west and north-east corners, as latitude and longitude, to frame a map. |
parcels_url | A public link to the outlines as JSON: parcels is a list of [survey, sub-division, [[lat, lng], ...]]. No key is needed to open it. |
page_url | The village map page, where the same map can be opened in a browser. |
source | Which layer the outlines come from. |
Inputs
The JSON body of the POST is the arguments. The three codes are required. resolve_revenue_codes or revenue_directory give them at no charge.
| Argument | Type | What to send |
|---|---|---|
district_coderequired |
string | Revenue district code, e.g. 03 |
taluk_coderequired |
string | Revenue taluk code, e.g. 01 |
village_coderequired |
string | Revenue village code, e.g. 121 |
register |
string: rural, urban | "rural" for a village. "urban" is refused: a town has no village map. |

Responses
Every answer has the same envelope. What status can say for this call:
| status | What it means |
|---|---|
ok | The village map was found. |
not_found | The layer holds no outlines for the village (town survey land, or a village not digitised), the codes are unknown, or register was urban. |
invalid_args | A code is missing. |
free_limit_reached | The account has used its free calls for the hour or the day. retry_after says how many seconds to wait; paid calls keep working. |
Where the data comes from
The Tamil Nadu cadastral boundary layer published by the state GIS: one outline per survey sub-division, drawn from the Field Measurement Book sketches.
Every revenue village whose map the state has digitised. Town survey land is kept by ward and block and has no village map.
Read from our copy of the state cadastral layer, refreshed from the state GIS. Outlines change only when the survey department redraws them.
All outlines filed under the village's codes are read and counted. A village with no outlines is answered as not found, with the reason, never as an empty map.
Who uses it
Surveyors and engineers
Draw a whole village's survey grid before a site visit, and see which numbers surround the one on the deed.
Land aggregators
Lay out every survey of a village to plan which parcels to approach.
Map applications
Overlay the cadastral outlines of a village on your own base map from one link.
Limits and good practice
- The outlines are the state's digitised map, not a ground survey. For one survey's measured sketch use fmb_sketch.
- Town survey land has no village map. Use the ward and block with the town survey calls instead.
- A large village can hold several thousand outlines; parcels_url returns them all at once.
Pricing
The village map costs nothing. Free calls have their own allowance per hour and per day. Credits come from the same LandLens wallet as the chat and the minis. How billing works.
Free calls have an hourly and daily allowance. For more than that, or a platform built on these registers, we set up limits and a plan to match.
Questions
Is there an API for Tamil Nadu village maps with survey numbers?
Yes, this one. Send the village codes and you get the parcel and survey counts and a link to every sub-division's outline as JSON.
Is this the FMB sketch?
No. This is the whole village's map of outlines. The FMB sketch is one survey's measured drawing, as a PDF, from fmb_sketch.
Does it work for city land?
No. Town survey land is kept by ward and block and has no village map.
What does it cost?
It costs nothing, within the account's free call allowance.
