Street Profile API: recorded road width by street name
Yes. The LandLens street profile API looks up a street by name in the corporation street register of Coimbatore, Salem and Chennai. For Coimbatore and Salem streets it returns the recorded road width in metres, the length where recorded, the ward and the guideline land classification. Chennai streets are in the same register with their zone, ward, locality and bus route, but no width is recorded for any Chennai street. It costs 1 credit, charged only when a width comes back.

A real answer from the API. Four of the eight streets and the closing note are left out for length.
What it returns
One call, up to 8 streets. A match with no recorded width (every Chennai street) answers status not_found with the streets still in data, and is not charged.
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
streets[] | Up to 8 matching streets. |
street, city, ward | The street as the register names it, its corporation and ward. |
width_m, length_m | The recorded road width and length in metres, where the register holds them. |
zone, area, bus_route | Chennai streets: the corporation zone, the locality and the bus route along it where recorded. |
classifications, village | The guideline land classification of the street's segments, and the revenue or registration village, where recorded. |
cities_matched, city_filter | Which corporations the name matched in, and the one you asked for. |
no_charge, message | Set when none of the matches carries a width, saying so in words. |
area_filter_ignored | Set when nothing matched inside the area you sent, so the matches are from the whole register. |
Inputs
The JSON body of the POST is the arguments.
| Argument | Type | What to send |
|---|---|---|
streetrequired |
string | The street name as on the sign, at least 3 characters, e.g. Cross Cut Road. |
city |
string | coimbatore, salem or chennai. Send it when you know it; a name two cities share then resolves to the right one. |
area |
string | Chennai only: a locality or village to narrow the match. |

How wide is VNR Nagar 4th Cross 1st Cut Road in Coimbatore? Can a building of more than two floors come up on it?
Your AI looks up the recorded width and explains what that width allows under the building rules.
Responses
Every answer has the same envelope. What status can say for this call:
| status | What it means |
|---|---|
ok | At least one matching street carries a recorded width. Charged. |
not_found | No street matched, or the matches carry no width (every Chennai street). The streets found are still in data. Nothing is charged. |
invalid_args | street is missing. |
insufficient_credits | HTTP 402: the balance does not cover the call, with the credits needed and your balance. |
Where the data comes from
The street register of the Coimbatore, Salem and Greater Chennai corporations, joined to the registration department's guideline classification of each street segment.
Streets within the Coimbatore, Salem and Greater Chennai corporation limits. Widths are recorded for many, not all, Coimbatore and Salem streets, and for no Chennai street. Other towns are not in this register.
As published by the corporations. A street laid or widened since may be missing or show its old width.
The name is matched anywhere in the street name (Kalki finds Kalki Street), and retried without words like street, road or salai when nothing matches. A street appears once per classification segment and is collapsed to one entry per city, name and ward. Exact-name matches come first, then Coimbatore and Salem, then Chennai, up to 8 streets.
Who uses it
Architects and builders in Coimbatore and Salem
Read the recorded width of the abutting street before working out FSI and the building type it allows.
Buyers
Check the width of the street a plot faces, and which ward it falls in.
Property platforms
Show road width on Coimbatore and Salem listings from the corporation's own register.
Limits and good practice
- Widths for Coimbatore and Salem streets only. For Chennai, or any plot outside those registers, road_width measures the road beside a plot from the cadastral map.
- Many streets carry no recorded width. The answer says so and is not charged.
- Name matching is loose. When several streets match, use ward and city to pick the right one.
- The register's width is the recorded road, not a measured carriageway.
Pricing
Each call costs 1 credit when a recorded width comes back, and nothing otherwise. Credits come from the same LandLens wallet as the chat and the minis. How billing works.
For thousands of calls a month, a portfolio sweep or a platform built on these registers, we quote a customised bulk price, with invoicing to match.
Questions
Is there an API for the road width of a street in Coimbatore?
Yes, this one. It returns the recorded road width in metres of Coimbatore and Salem corporation streets by name.
Why is there no width for my Chennai street?
The Chennai corporation register records no road width for any street. road_width measures the road beside a Chennai plot from the cadastral map instead.
Why does road width matter?
Under the Tamil Nadu building rules the width of the abutting road decides the floor space index and the building types allowed on a plot.
What if the name matches streets in two cities?
cities_matched lists each one and every street says its city. Send city to keep to one.
