Land Case Law Search API, Supreme Court and Madras High Court

Yes. The LandLens case law API searches the full text of land judgments of the Supreme Court of India and the Madras High Court for a legal question or fact pattern: patta and mutation refusals, acquisition compensation, encroachment, poramboke and natham, temple and waqf land, planning permission refusals, partition, easement and possession. You get up to ten judgments, one passage each, with the case title, the court, the decision date, the outcome, the judge and a link to the judgment PDF at the page that answers. It costs nothing.

One call, one answer. found is false (status not_found) when no judgment in the set matches, and the answer says so rather than offering a remembered case.

Inputs

The JSON body of the POST is the arguments.

ArgumentTypeWhat to send
queryrequired string The legal question or fact pattern in English, e.g. "Tahsildar refused patta transfer because the land is natham".
from_year integer Earliest decision year, e.g. 2020, when the question is about the current position.
court string: Supreme Court, Madras High Court "Supreme Court" or "Madras High Court" to search one court. Both are searched by default.

Where the data comes from

Register

The published judgments of the Supreme Court of India and the Madras High Court, read in full text and searched by meaning as well as by words.

Coverage

2,922 Supreme Court land judgments selected from 43,541 reports as applying in Tamil Nadu (central Acts, general property law and Tamil Nadu statutes), 1950 to 2026. 174,060 Madras High Court land judgments from both benches, Chennai and Madurai, 2001 to 2026 and thinly before 2011: about a tenth of the court's judgments, chosen because a land authority is a party (a Tahsildar, a Sub Registrar, a Collector, CMDA, the Housing Board, HR and CE, Waqf) or the cause title names land. A private land dispute whose title says nothing about land may be missing. No other High Court, district court or tribunal.

How current

New Madras High Court judgments are pulled about once a month from a public mirror of the court's judgments; the Supreme Court set is reviewed about every three months. The set records what a judgment said, not whether it was later overruled, affirmed or distinguished.

How we read it

Each court is searched separately, by words and by meaning, and the results merged by relevance. Only the best passage of each judgment is kept, so one case never fills the list and looks like a line of authority.

Who uses it

Advocates

Find how the High Court has applied a revenue rule to facts like your client's, with the passage and the page to cite.

Bank legal teams

Check whether a title defect in an opinion has been decided before, and how.

AI assistants

Answer "has the court decided" from the judgment text, citing the case, never from memory.

Limits and good practice

  • Whether a judgment is still good law is not recorded. Confirm with a lawyer before relying on one.
  • A judgment decides its own facts. One single-judge order is not settled law.
  • High Court coverage is thin before 2011 and starts in 2001. Older reported cases may be missing.
  • This is case law, not legislation. For what a rule or act says, use knowledge_search.
  • Queries are read in English.

Questions

Is there an API for Madras High Court judgments on land?

Yes. LandLens searches land judgments of the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court and returns the matching passages with the case, court, date and a PDF link, over plain HTTPS or as an MCP tool. It is free.

Does it include Supreme Court judgments?

Yes, those that apply in Tamil Nadu: central Acts, general principles of property law and Tamil Nadu statutes. Each result names its court, and a Supreme Court result says it binds every court in India.

Does it tell me if a judgment was overruled?

No. It records what each judgment said, not its later history on appeal. Confirm with a lawyer before relying on one.

Can I limit it to recent judgments?

Yes. Send from_year, e.g. 2020, to search judgments from that year on.

What does it cost?

It costs nothing, within the account's allowance of free calls.
