Land Unit Converter API: ground, cent, acre, kuzhi and more
Yes. The LandLens unit converter API converts land area between square feet, square metres, square yards, grounds, cents, acres, hectares, ares, gunthas and the old Tamil Nadu units (veli, maa, kaani, kuli or kuzhi, kuncham, cawnie), and lengths between feet, metres, yards, centimetres, kol and muzham. Send an amount and a unit for the full table, or a target unit for one figure. In rate mode it converts a price per unit instead, so Rs 3,000 a square foot becomes a price per cent or per ground. It costs nothing.

A real answer from the API, as returned.
What it returns
One call, one answer. found is false (status not_found) when the unit is unknown, the amount is not above zero, or an area is asked for in a length unit.
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
equivalents | Without to: the amount in every other unit of the same kind. |
result | With to: the one converted figure. |
rate | In rate mode: the price per to unit. |
amount, from, to, mode | What was converted. |
unit_note | A word on a unit whose size differs by place (kaani), or null. |
note | How to read the figure. |
Ways to call it
mode decides whether the amount is a size or a price.
An extent
The default. 2.5 acres in cents, or 1 ground in everything.
{"amount": 2.5,"from": "acre","to": "cent"}
A rate
A price per unit. Rs 3,000 per square foot as a price per cent.
{"amount": 3000,"from": "square_feet","to": "cent","mode": "rate"}
Inputs
The JSON body of the POST is the arguments.
| Argument | Type | What to send |
|---|---|---|
amountrequired |
number | |
fromrequired |
string | The unit the amount is in, e.g. ground, cent, acre, square_feet, kuli (kuzhi is accepted). |
to |
string | The unit wanted. Leave it out for the full table. |
mode |
string: convert, rate | convert (default) treats amount as an EXTENT. rate treats it as a PRICE PER "from" unit and returns the price per "to" unit. |

How many cents is one ground? And if land is selling at Rs 3,000 a square foot, what is that per cent?
Your AI converts the extent, then the rate, with exact figures. It is free.
Responses
Every answer has the same envelope. What status can say for this call:
| status | What it means |
|---|---|
ok | Converted. |
not_found | The unit is not known, the amount is not above zero, or an area was asked for in a length unit (or the other way). error says which, and lists the units. |
invalid_args | amount or from is missing. |
free_limit_reached | The account has used its free calls for the hour or the day. retry_after says how many seconds to wait; paid calls keep working. |
Where the data comes from
Fixed conversion factors for the standard units and the traditional Tamil Nadu land units, as used across LandLens.
Area: square_feet, ground, acre, cent, square_meter, veli, maa, kaani, kuli, are, square_yard, guntha, kuncham, hectare and cawnie. Length: feet, meter, yard, kol, muzham and centimeter.
Not applicable. The factors are fixed; a ground is 2,400 square feet.
The amount is turned into square metres (or metres) and out again into each unit, to six decimals, or six significant figures below 1. A rate converts the opposite way to an extent and is rounded to the rupee above Rs 1,000. Kaani is taken as 57,600 square feet (1.3223 acres); since some districts use a smaller kaani, every kaani answer carries a note saying so.
Who uses it
Property portals
Show every listing's extent in grounds, cents and square feet, whatever unit the seller typed.
Document writers
Convert an old deed's kaani, maa or kuzhi into acres and square metres for the schedule.
AI assistants
Answer unit questions exactly, including rates, which convert the opposite way to an extent.
Limits and good practice
- Traditional units differ by district and by period. The converter uses one fixed size for each; read an old deed with its extent in standard units beside it.
- An area cannot be converted to a length. For the side of a square plot, take the square root of the area, or use plot_area.
- A rate is returned in whatever currency the amount was in.
Pricing
Unit conversion costs nothing. Free calls have their own allowance per hour and per day, counted across every key and connected app on the account, and it is larger once the account has bought credits. Credits come from the same LandLens wallet as the chat and the minis. How billing works.
Free calls have an hourly and daily allowance. For more than that, or a platform built on these registers, we set up limits and a plan to match.
Questions
Is there an API for Tamil Nadu land unit conversion?
Yes, this one. It converts between grounds, cents, acres, square feet and the traditional units like veli, maa, kaani and kuzhi.
How many square feet is one ground?
2,400 square feet, or about 5.51 cents.
How do I convert a price per square foot to a price per cent?
Use mode rate. A rate converts the opposite way to an extent: Rs 3,000 a square foot is Rs 13,06,800 a cent.
How big is a kaani?
The converter uses 57,600 square feet (1.3223 acres), a fifth of a veli. Some districts and older papers use a smaller kaani of about 0.918 acre, and the answer flags it.
