Pincode from Location API
Yes. The LandLens pincode API takes a latitude and longitude and returns the postal pincode, the post office, its type (head, sub or branch office), the postal division and region, and the district. Two independent postal sources are read, and when they give different pincodes (near a pincode boundary) the answer says so instead of hiding one. It costs nothing.

A real answer from the API (22 Oct 2026).
What it returns
One call, one point. found is false (status not_found) when neither postal source holds the point.
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
pincode | The six-digit pincode from the pincode boundary map. This is the headline figure. |
locality | The delivery office for that pincode, e.g. Sholinganallur S.O. |
post_office, office_type | The post office whose delivery boundary holds the point, and its type: H.O (head office), S.O (sub office) or B.O (branch office). |
postal_division, postal_region | The India Post division and region. |
district | The district. |
boundary_pincode | The pincode the post office boundary gives. Usually the same as pincode. |
sources_disagree, note | Set when the two sources give different pincodes: the point is near a pincode boundary. |
nearest_only | Set when no boundary holds the point (water, open ground) and the pincode is the nearest address's. |
Inputs
The JSON body of the POST is the arguments. Both are required.
| Argument | Type | What to send |
|---|---|---|
latrequired |
number | Latitude in decimal degrees. |
lngrequired |
number | Longitude in decimal degrees. |
Code
Set LANDLENS_KEY to your key. In an AI app, connect https://verified.realestate/mcp once and ask in plain words instead. In Postman, download this API's collection, import it (File, Import) and set apiKey.
curl -X POST https://verified.realestate/api/v1/tools/pincode \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $LANDLENS_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"lat":12.901,"lng":80.2279}'
import os, requests
r = requests.post(
"https://verified.realestate/api/v1/tools/pincode",
headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['LANDLENS_KEY']}"},
json={
"lat": 12.901,
"lng": 80.2279
},
timeout=20,
)
body = r.json()
print(body["status"], body["credits_charged"], body["data"])
const res = await fetch("https://verified.realestate/api/v1/tools/pincode", {
method: "POST",
headers: {
Authorization: `Bearer ${process.env.LANDLENS_KEY}`,
"Content-Type": "application/json",
},
body: JSON.stringify({
"lat": 12.901,
"lng": 80.2279
}),
});
const body = await res.json();
console.log(body.status, body.credits_charged, body.data);
What is the pincode of the land at 12.9010, 80.2279, and which post office serves it?
Your AI reads the pincode and the post office for the point. It is free.
Responses
Every answer has the same envelope. What status can say for this call:
| status | What it means |
|---|---|
ok | A pincode was found. Check sources_disagree and nearest_only. |
not_found | No postal source holds the point. error says why. |
invalid_args | lat or lng is missing. |
free_limit_reached | The account has used its free calls for the hour or the day. retry_after says how many seconds to wait; paid calls keep working. |
Where the data comes from
India Post's pincode boundary map and its post office delivery boundaries. Where neither holds the point, the pincode of the nearest address on OpenStreetMap is used and marked as such.
Every pincode in India.
Read from our copy of the India Post boundary maps. Pincodes change rarely; a new post office appears when India Post publishes it.
The point is placed in the pincode boundary that contains it, and separately in the post office boundary. When the two pincodes differ, both are returned with sources_disagree.
Who uses it
Document drafting
Fill the pincode in a deed schedule, an agreement or a legal notice from the plot's map point.
Property platforms
Show the correct pincode on a listing and group listings by postal area.
Lenders
Check the pincode in an application against where the property actually is.
Limits and good practice
- Pincode boundaries are approximate at their edges. Near one, read sources_disagree and mention both pincodes.
- A point in water or on open ground has no pincode of its own; nearest_only says so.
- A pincode is a delivery area, not a revenue or municipal boundary.
Pricing
The pincode lookup costs nothing. Free calls have their own allowance per hour and per day. Credits come from the same LandLens wallet as the chat and the minis. How billing works.
Free calls have an hourly and daily allowance. For more than that, or a platform built on these registers, we set up limits and a plan to match.
Questions
Is there an API to get a pincode from latitude and longitude?
Yes, this one. Send lat and lng and you get the pincode, post office, office type, postal division and region.
Does it work outside Tamil Nadu?
Yes. The postal maps cover all of India.
Why are two pincodes mentioned?
The two postal sources disagree, which happens near a pincode boundary. pincode is the headline; boundary_pincode is the other source's figure.
What does it cost?
It costs nothing, within the account's free call allowance.
